Dark Souls has a continuous issue with the online functions where the game just fails to connect to other players. Meaning you need to restart the game, change download regions and wait 10+ minutes after restarting just to see if the problem is actually fixed. If it’s not fixed, you need to go through the whole thing again and again until you either give up or until the game sorts itself out.
Thankfully, modders did actually fix the frustrating issue. The Dark Souls Connectivity Mod from Wulf2k fixes the broken matchmaking system by facilitating the connections though DSCM-net. It’s a network running alongside the general public one so that players with this mod installed are not separated from players without it. In other words, it’s more easy to pair with specific people and friends with the Dark Souls Connectivity Mod, while filling your connections with random players just like the online should.
Not only has Wulf2k fixed the issue, they have added a little extra when using the Dark souls Connectivity Mod. The vanilla game usually just puts whoever it can find against you, regardless of your level. This mod actually takes level into consideration, along with your area and covenant as it tries to match you with similar players to summon or invade. There is no reason to not use this mod then; it’s fixed the online connection issues, and at the same time, makes it much better than the vanilla version thanks to the improved matchmaking.
The online issues plaguing Dark Souls is definitely something that has upset a lot of people, but Wulf2k has given us a miracle! The Dark Souls Connectivity Mod can be downloaded for free from Nexus Mods. It has been online since 2016 and is still working fine so if you’re new to Dark Souls and have the online issues, then be sure to install the Dark Souls Connectivity Mod.
