A Fateful Childhood

Born 32 BBY, Cal Kestis was a force-sensitive child who was trained by Jedi Master Jaro Tapal to join the ranks of a force of intergalactic peacekeepers known as The Jedi Order. This is the story of how even masters of the Force can fall and how one boy grew up in such trying times.

Under Master Tapal’s tutelage, Cal learned how to wield a light saber and discovered his potential in using the Force. But he didn’t have the time to fully explore what he could do. During the Clone Wars, Darth Sidious, a Sith Lord impersonating the Supreme Chancellor, executed Order 66 to deploy all Clone Troopers to seek and destroy all Jedi Knights.

It was during this period when Cal and his Master, during a joint mission with another party, were turned on by the very same people they were meant to fight alongside. Master Tapal sacrificed his life to provide an escape and a chance for his dear student to survive.

Life After Order 66

Cal escaped to the planet Bracca and lived in hiding. He took up a job as a rigger for the Scrapper Guild in order to get by, perhaps resigning himself to his fate of never becoming a Jedi Master. Life finally became peaceful for Cal, that is, until he was discovered by the Second and Ninth Sisters.

They are Inquisitors charged with the task of hunting down Jedi remnants, and they have chanced upon the innocent Cal Kestis.

A Band of Misfits

Cal once again escaped from the clutches of the Jedi-hunters with the help of the crew of the Stinger Mantis, comprising of its Captain, Greez Dritus, and a former Jedi, Cere Junda. With Clone Troopers and now, Inquisitors, seeking the Jedi in every nook and cranny of the universe, people like Cal and Cere can no longer stand idle.

They decided to rebuild The Jedi Order to combat this oppression so that all who have affinity with the Force need not continue living in fear. Thus, Cal Kestis and his newfound partners began a journey in search of the famed Holocron which holds the names of all force-sensitive children.

The Holocron

After a long and exhausting journey, traveling from planet to planet, the team’s search finally pointed them to the planet, Bogano. Exasperatingly, it was the very first planet they landed on to begin their search. This time, Cal finally managed to unlock the secrets of its resident temple and unveiled the long sought-after Holocron… Only to be snatched away by the Second Sister, revealed to be a Fallen Jedi by the name of Trilla Suduri.

Cal engaged her in a duel for the Holocron and bested her in combat. Just before he could deal the finishing blow, however, Cal suddenly received a vision of the future, where he trained children sensitive to the Force. He saw the children being captured, tortured, and turned into Inquisitors just like the Second Sister.

This diversion allowed Trilla to grab the Holocron and make her escape.

The Final Stand

Cal and his crew tracked Trilla to the planet, Ilum, an Empire stronghold where captured Jedi were tortured and turned into Inquisitors. This is the setting for the final showdown between Cal and Trilla. The young man defeated Trilla again and successfully retrieves the Holocron this time.

Instead of letting her be killed, Cere took heart and tried to save the defeated Inquisitor, encouraging and pulling her back to the light side of the Force. A valiant attempt, it turned out to be, due to the arrival of an all-too familiar villain, Darth Vader. The Sith Lord condemns the Sister Second for failing her mission and swiftly executes her.

Cal and the team understood the vast difference in power between them and the heavy-breathing lord of darkness, and immediately took flight. They barely escaped the clutches of Darth Vader and made their escape from Ilum.

To a New Journey

With the holocron in their possession, Cal and the crew understood that their struggle was for a just cause… or was it? Cal remembered the vision he saw back in the temple in Bogano and feared that proceeding with their journey to seek out the force-sensitive children might lead to such a harrowing future. Thus, he decided to destroy the Holocron instead.

Though the Stinger Mantis crew won’t be able to seek out those children anymore, neither will those who seek to destroy them. Cal, Greez Ditus and Cere Junda set out on another new journey — to what end is something they have yet to discover.
