Just who are the legends behind the Apex Legends characters roster? Admittedly, Apex Legends has been on the scene for some time now. Even so, many out there are still picking up the game. Some of you, for the first time. For those new to the popular battle royale title hogging all the limelight of late, we’ve cooked up a short rundown of each playable character.
After all, there are many to choose between — each one with varying pros and cons attached to them.
Upon reading, you’ll be perfectly placed to pick a player that best compliments your preferred playstyle. With that in mind, the following is a rundown of all the playable Apex Legends characters released as of 2019. Enjoy!
Apex Legends Characters – Bangalore
First up, we have Bangalore. Bangalore is a militant type, with an enthesis on running and gunning. She’s relatively straightforward to get to grips with, ideal for any newbie. Her tactical ability, the grenade launcher, can be used for both offensive and defensive means. Not only does it deal decent damage to the enemy, it also provides a convenient smokescreen, thus, allowing her to escape a firefight or recover fallen comrades amongst the issuing mist.
Her passive ability gives a temporary boost to speed, hence, giving the option to sprint in double-quick time. Lastly, we come to Bangalore’s Ultimate ability: Rolling Thunder, which sends a barrage of missiles down from the sky once the player sets the target destination. However, the detonation takes a few seconds, so, the enemy can attempt to exit the blast radius if they’re quick enough. Quick planning is always an important factor to bring out the best in Bangalore.
Apex Legends Characters – Bloodhound
Next up in our list of Apex Legends characters is Bloodhound. Above all else, just like the breed of dog associated with his name, Bloodhound is an expert tracker. On that note, Bloodhound’s tactical ability scans the nearby vicinity and pinpoints the locations of enemies close by.
However, the ultimate ability enhances this skill twofold. Not only does it cover a larger area, you’ll also extract additional intel hinting at the enemy’s movements. Things like footprints, recently looted chests and ziplines allow you to track the enemy’s whereabouts. You know, like the ultimate predator. You’ll also experience a speed boost for 35 seconds while vision fades into a monochrome format, thus, allowing you to identify the exact location of enemies more quickly.
Apex Legends Characters – Caustic
Third, in line, is Caustic. Also known as the Toxic Trapper, this lover of lethal pesticides is sadly one of two legends locked behind a paywall at the start. However, you can grab him by spending in-game tokens. Or real-world money depending on your preference. Anyway, when push comes to shove, Caustic primarily centers around the use of gas.
By design, these abilities vary slightly but tend to share similar effects. For example, Caustic’s tactical ability is all about laying gas canisters as a trap. Unfortunately, these also deal damage to fellow teammates and are easily detectable. His Ultimate has pretty much the same outcome, except it affects a much larger area and takes the form of a throwable grenade.
The good news is, Caustic can see through the gas. All thanks to his passive ability.
Caustic himself was given a bit of a buff recently, and we’ll take a look at whether the Caustic Buff is worth the effort.
Apex Legends Characters – Gibraltar
Did you ever yearn to know what the human equivalent of a tank is? If so, then look no further than Gibraltar. This big brute may share the same health as all other legends, but a direct focus on protective shields gives him a unique advantage in the field.
Gibraltar makes use of his passive ability, whereby a shield pops up, which acts as a helmet when aiming down sights. Meaning, it’s almost impossible to get shot in the head. Very handy, indeed.
His tactical ability casts a protective cocoon, making you immune to all forms of damage. However, once in the bubble, you won’t be able to deal out damage to any opponent on the exterior walls. If all else fails though, you can always send down a sweeping carpet bomb, flooding the area with explosions. How beautiful?
Next, in this cue of epic, Apex Legends, is Lifeline, who just so happens to be my favorite playable hero. Overall, most if not all her abilities revolve around health to some degree. First off, she deploys a health drone, which allows players to patch up during a firefight. Not only that, but she can also revive downed squad members, making her an essential asset to the team.
Lifeline’s care package Ultimate is ideal. That is if you’ve just scrapped through an intense battle. And are in vital need of aid. This drop pod brings in defensive gear like shields and armor, and various healing-aids and shield cells. All in all, Lifeline acts as the foundation, or spine, of any great team.
Apex Legends Characters – Mirage
Sadly, Mirage isn’t available from the start. That said, this crafty trickster is well worth the investment later. That is, should you opt to splash the cash.
Mirage, as the name suggests, is all about deception. He uses clever decoys to deceive the enemy. And surprisingly, it works. At least, for the most part. These ploys involve casting holograms which mimic Mirage, designed to keep the enemy guessing, those of which are automatically triggered once Mirage gets downed.
As for Mirage’s ultimate, this is by and large the same principle, but it involves a swarm of decoys, allowing Mirage to cloak up for a short period.
Octane is the newest recruit to grace the roster but is by no means the least effective. Think of Octane as a high-speed adrenaline-junkie. This thrill-seeking daredevil can infiltrate behind enemy lines or escape the battle altogether to regroup, thanks to a short-burst turbo injection.
The only downside is that this does take away health. However, at the same time, Octane’s passive replenishes life. It’s a nice way balance in-between skill uses.
Better still, the launch-pad Ultimate allows Octane to cascade through the air, which sends him crashing behind enemy lines or away from the action altogether.
Apex Legends Characters – Pathfinder
In truth, Pathfinder is a joy to control. After all, the android comes equipped with a grappling hook. Although this has a short reach, it comes in handy when trying to gain the tactical advantage by scaling rocks and other tall structures. In turn, this enables the player to take up key vantage points.
Also, his ultimate, the zipline gun, allows teammates to traverse the lines permanently. Designed with the goal of quick evac, it can also help in reaching the confounds of an encroaching ring with more speed — ideal for all those high-flyers out there.
Last, but no means least, we have Wraith. Currently, in the game’s lifespan, Wraith appears to be one of the most popular. This likely boils down to her ability to turn invisible. Meaning her exact location is undetectable for a brief period.
Also, her ultimate ability involves the use of two portals which connect, allowing anyone to travel through them. To truly capitalize on this skill, the goal is to hide any voids from the enemy. Thus, granting enough time to flee the scene and heal.
So those are the characters that make up the Apex Legends roster. Which is your favorite? As always, we welcome all contributions. So please, have your say via the chat below.
