E3 2019: The Biggest Controversy: Tifa’s Chest

E3 2015 brought us the announcement of a remake to everyone’s beloved Final Fantasy title: Final Fantasy VII. Keep in mind, this is not a remaster like they’re planning on doing with Final Fantasy VIII, but a complete remake of the original game. Obviously, they’re going to stay true to the source material, but expect a few changes here and there.

After all, technology has changed since the original game came out in 1997, and so has one of the game’s more recognizable characters: Tifa.

While Tifa has been featured in the CGI-animated movie, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and a couple of games in the early 2000s, she hasn’t really been shown in all her glory in remastered high-definition. Tifa is known for her black, sometimes dark-brown hair, depending on the material, and her striking red eyes.

It was really difficult to write that sentence because we all know what Tifa is really known for.

Takeo Kujiraoka, the director of Dissidia Final Fantasy, even needed to get ahead of any comments towards Tifa’s inclusion in the fighting game by reassuring fans that her chest will, indeed, bounce.

Why did this even need to be announced by the director of Dissidia Final Fantasy? Unfortunately, after more gameplay was released, the more eagle-eyed fans, who think mainly through the use of the secondary brain in their pants, were concerned about Tifa’s chest size.

Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Final Fantasy VII remake tried explaining that because of the fact that she’s a more athletic fighter, she would need to be a bit more proportionate. This didn’t seem to do much to quell the backlash over Tifa’s chest size despite the perfectly reasonable explanation that her fighting during high-definition fighting would look unnatural if her chest was flying everywhere on the screen. It would just look like a pair of balloons flopping freely in the air during kicks and punches.

The Final Fantasy VII remake is gearing up to be a great modern remake of an old classic. With new fluid and real-time combat, it will no doubt be a hit after all this time waiting. However, the more hardcore fans will have to live with the minor detail of Tifa’s flatter chest.
