Gibraltar’s “Threat? What Threat?” Guide

Apex Legends season 3 is upon us and while it’s brought us a new fun map, it’s also switched up the meta by beefing up the hearty tanker. Gibraltar, whose voice actor is Branscombe Richmond, is a big and sturdy character who focuses on defense, so if you’re looking to main him, then you should check out this quick Apex Legends Gibraltar guide.

When you think of defense, then the first things you think about are his armor and shield, and the potential for tanking can really influence the outcome of a match. If defensive tanking is why you’re wanting to main Gibraltar, then you should look into really getting into the role with various cool skins for Gibraltar such as the Bunker Buster or Dark Side legendary skins. Despite what cool cool outlook you wear as your skin, you have to adjust your playstyle to account for how large of a hitbox disadvantage you have with this character.

One of the new changes with season 3 of Apex Legends with Gibraltar is the fact that his ultimate, Defensive Bombardment, has a decreased cooldown to 3 minutes. It also has a further throwing range, but now only lasts 6 seconds compared to the 8 that it used to have. However, the best change to Gibraltar’s Dome Shield is it gives a passive buff to your teammates who are within it. Keep in mind the Dome can really give your position away, so use it sparingly. It’s great for quick placement for protecting or reviving your fallen teammates.

Gibraltar’s shield health is no joke with 75 HP before enemies force their way through your Gun Shield block. The Gun Shield is Gibraltar’s Passive and is activated simply by aiming down your sight. It provides temporary protection for you or your allies.

However, keep in mind that the delay between aiming and your Gun Shield coming out can hurt you if an enemy gets the jump on you. Also, once your Gun Shield is shattered after an enemy does 75 damage, there is a bit of cooldown before you can use it again. It’s best to try to use Shield Batteries, Phoenix Kits, or Shield Cells to alleviate the cooldown time. The Gun Shield can also reveal your position, so if you don’t need it, you can toggle it off until you’re ready to engage.

When using Gibraltar’s ultimate, keep in mind who is around as it can stun your teammates as well. It’s best paired with a Dome to create confusion among your enemies. If you’re using it offensively, you can really force enemies out of where they’re holed up for your teammates to pick them off.
