Monster Hunter: World, an action role-playing game from the developers who brought you Resident Evil and Street fighter, made a special appearance at San Diego Comic Con 2019. Being out only a year after its release in 2018, it’s reached commercial success while also being well-received by critics and fans alike.

The end of 2019 brought an announcement of the game’s first expansion, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, the only major planned expansion for the Monster Hunter: World title as it will bring the game’s story to an end.

The demo for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne showcased two main quests: “Hunt a Banbaro” and “Hunt a Tigrex”.

Both of these new quests take place in Hoarfrost Reach, a huge tundra region new to the Monster Hunter world. The giant monster, Banbaro, has the ability to grab different items in the environment and use them to defend itself against hunters.

The Tigrex also returns from previous installments of Monster Hunter titles, but this time with more ferocity! The Monster Hunter World: Iceborne demo booth also had a cute palico for convention-goers to take pictures with.

Iceborne will bring a steeper difficulty curve than the original game and change certain difficulties based on how many players are in the party. Originally, the difficulty of encounters would scale to match how many people were in the party upon entry. However, if a player disconnected or left, the difficulty would remain the same. The patch accompanying Iceborne will have an additional difficulty setting that will scale appropriately if players happen to depart the instance.

Monster Hunter: Iceborne will hit the 8th generation consoles, the Xbox One and Playstation 4 in September with a PC version coming later in the winter, just in time for some ice!

While we wait for the expansion to arrive, let’s satiate our anticipation (if that’s even an actual expression!) with more details of Pokemon Sword and Shield!
