The curtain has been officially drawn on Comic-Con 2019 San Diego, giving credence to the phrase, “all good things must come to an end.” But that doesn’t mean we can’t hark back and marvel at all the frenzied fun and festivities. Besides, there was plenty of exciting, pop-culture entertainment to soak up during Comic-Con 2019 in San Diego this year.
While Comic-Con is not focused on games, it is still a wonderland for pop culture fans, of whom many of us, I wholeheartedly believe, are also gamers. Plus, Comic-Con is an event unlike any other, whereby sci-fi enthusiasts and pop culture clans around the globe unite under one umbrella all in a bid to celebrate the industry’s latest and most significant endeavors. Everything from star-studded panels, to quirky cosplay, and surprise Hollywood cameos were on offer to the public.
And this year was no exception.
But beyond all the high-profile glitz and glam, we’ve been busy behind the scenes collating all that rich, raw data for you, the reader, to digest. So, without any further or do, let’s cue the highlight reel. And of course, dive headfirst into this showstopper of an event.
By the end of this read, you’ll have a broad idea of all the unmissable action from Comic-Con 2019. On that note, it’s time to buckle up and strap in tight. But more importantly, enjoy a barnstorming event. Popcorn at the ready!
Comic-Con 2019 Trailers
Trailers and teasers play a pivotal part in sending fans into a feverish hype, and Comic-Con 2019 succeeded once again, in that department. Spanning across the silver screen to Television, we got served up a tantalizing array of must-see footage. All from the hottest properties in the entertainment industry. As well as, it must be said, some surprise shocks along the way.
Perhaps it was IT Chapter Two’s terrifying teaser that stole the show? Or just maybe a fresh peek at the Netflix Original Series, The Witcher, starring Mark Cavill, that sent pulses soaring. Then, there’s the small matter of Top Gun, and inevitably, the return of Tom Cruise, which no doubt sent the crowd into a high-fiving frenzy.
Also, we caught a glimpse of Terminator Dark Fate which will see the return of Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger in what promises to be an action blockbuster on par with previous entries. But for those after a dose of darkly silly humor, the reboot of Jay & Silent Bob made fans weak at the knees, watching their debaucherous reunion unfold.
All around, there was viewable content by the bucketload. And that’s an element most viewers watching in house, and around the world, would have enjoyed a whole deal.
Comic-Con 2019 Cosplay Fans Unite
Now, you didn’t think that Comic-Con 2019 was all about upcoming movies and high-ranking celebrities, did you? Good, because at the San Diego center, freaks, heroes, villains, and monsters also put on an event, as fans flock to celebrate, and impersonate, their most iconic characters in pop-culture. On that note, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Comic-Con fans didn’t hold back. Not even, in the slightest.
From the marvel-ous marvel outfits to high-fantasy, Game of Thrones get-up, the cosplay costumes this year where a sight to behold. And long may the tradition continue.
Angelina Jolie Set to Join MCU
Among the many celebrated cameos at Comic-Con 2019, Angelina Jolie’s stint up on stage was one of the most significant. Under the spotlight, Jolie, the Oscar-winning actress, announced her arrival to the MCU universe where she’ll join the likes of Don Lee, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh, and Richard Madden, among others, in The Eternals.
But the fun didn’t stop there. Aside from Jolie’s welcome addition to the ensemble cast, Marvel has many other future works in the pipeline. Including, but not limited to, Black Widow, Blade, Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love & Thunder, and finally, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Now, there’s a back catalog I can get behind. So then, it seems as though the demand for Marvel is only multiplying with each year that passes. With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see how the company can expand on existing canon with these soon-to-be titles.
Awesome Awards & Heartfelt Tributes
As we commemorate current and existing icons in the world of pop culture, we also wave goodbye and pay homage to those we have lost in recent years. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the creator of Riverdale, gave a heartfelt tribute to the late Luke Perry, by showing a sentimental showreel, in what was a touching tribute to the actor.
In other news, a crew of Chewbacca’s clambered up on stage, to pay their loving respects to the late Peter Mayhew, in no other way than with a certified Wookie Salute. A beautiful scene, indeed.
And to cap everything off, Mark Hamill took home the prestigious Icon award for his services as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. A fitting way to round-off the show.
All in all, Comic-Con 2019 was one of the best in living memory, and with so much in store, pop-culture fanatics have never had it so good. At least, until next year. What are your impressions on Comic-Con 2019? As always, we appreciate all contributions. So please, get in touch via the chat below.
